Taiwan is an island nation where harbors are a common sight. The inspiration behind "FLOAT" comes from the small, often overlooked but important presence of buoys in the surroundings. When using it, people can try to imagine themselves as seabirds, enjoying the subtle swaying and leisurely floating. The design incorporates the imagery of buoy's movement on the sea and expresses the sparkling texture of the ocean's surface through folded lines, embodying the unique natural charm of Taiwan's island culture. The material chosen is environmentally friendly pineapple leather made in Taiwan, responding to the issue of environmental protection. Additionally, the design incorporates modular elements to facilitate easy maintenance and ensure sustainable use. FLOAT strives for a perfect balance between craftsmanship aesthetics and social responsibility.
After walking for a long time in an art gallery, the audiences often accumulate a lot of pressure on their waist and legs. Regular chairs are not effective in providing relief. However, FLOAT can help relax muscles through subtle swaying and is designed with a comfortable seating height, making it easier for the elderly to stand up. Its spherical and folded-line appearance allows it to blend harmoniously within the gallery space, exhibiting different surface variations under various lighting conditions. Instead of using animal leather, we have chosen vegetarian leather to reduce pollution associated with genuine leather production. Traditional leather furniture often presents challenges in terms of maintenance, as entire pieces need to be sent for repairs or replaced altogether, resulting in waste. FLOAT is designed with modular parts that can be easily disassembled, reducing the resources required for replacement and minimizing waste.
FLOAT is a public seating solution designed for art galleries, inspired by the buoys found near harbors. The upper part of the seat features a cushion made of medium-firm foam, slightly higher than regular chairs, making it easy for the elderly to sit and stand up while enhancing comfort and stability. The bottom of the seat is designed with a curved shape that allows for gentle rocking, helping to relax the muscles in the waist and legs after prolonged walking. It is upholstered with pineapple vegetarian leather, which offers waterproof and durable properties while reducing pollution associated with genuine leather production. The structure is modular, with each layer capable of being independently disassembled, making it convenient for maintenance and eliminating the need for complete replacement, thus reducing resource waste and extending the lifespan of the seating solution.
